Local Auskicker bound for grand final

Young Broughton Mundoora netballer Katie Dunstan, 8, celebrates her birthday on Friday and has received an unexpected gift courtesy of the NAB AFL Auskick program.

Katie, from Port Broughton, is one of 94 national prize winners who will travel to Melbourne from Thursday of Grand Final week where they will join NAB AFL Auskick Ambassador Robert “Dipper” DiPierdomenico in the 2008 AFL Toyota Grand Final Parade.

They will visit the MCG’s national sports museum and participate in the grand final pre-match entertainment.

A further 22 children involved will win the chance to present a premiership medial to one of the players of the winning team.

Katie got lucky when her school registered her and all her classmates for the Auskick program.

The competition was drawn on August 4 with one winner from each of the 94 development regions across the nation.

“Katie thinks this is fantastic.

“It took her a little while to understand, but she’s really looking forward to it,” said her mum Leah, who will be accompanying Katie on her trip of a lifetime.
